Though I didn’t realize it at the time, my love for country music started when I was a kid listening to my dad play the old-timey songs on the banjo and the fiddle in our small prairie town. When we got a record player the likes of Patsy Cline, Hank Snow and Marty Robbins filled our home with even more music.
In my teens and early adult life, Patsy, George, Jim and others took a back seat to the likes of The Eagles and the Rolling Stones, but my classic country roots had taken hold and would continue to influence my musical tastes as time marched on.
It wasn’t until well into my adulthood that I was reminded of just how deep the classic country roots had taken hold. Through the kindness, generosity and patience of my music teachers and like-minded musicians, I was able to find my voice. And when I did, it came out classic country.
